Here’s an odd family photo at 1 Kearny Street, courtesy of Curbed SF. (L-R:) A model of Charles Bloszies’ new building, a 1902 French Empire building, and a 1960s annex by Charles Moore. When the new building is completed, the three will form a single office building with downstairs retail.

The newer buildings seimically bolster the original building on both sides. I’m not wild about Brutalism, but I like how Moore’s annex gives a serious nod to the historic building with its floor levels, fenestration, cornice, and roof shape. Bloszies’ addition does a nice job of echoing the tall, narrow brick facade from the 1960s annex while offering its own modern take on the historic building’s fenestration and cornices.
